FAQ's

Here are some of our most frequently asked questions about the roles of sabbatical officers and what you might expect...

What's the purpose of the FVSA President or Vice President?

REPRESENT. Simple as that. You will amplify the student voice and campaign on issues that matter to FVC students.

Do I get paid?

CASH MONEY. You get paid a fair wage for the full-time position (35 hours). Weekends off and the most generous holidays a student could hope for (schools friendly).

Do I need any experience?

NONE. No experience necessary – we train you to be the best possible student representative you can be.

Where will I be working?

FVSA is based on all three FVC campuses – Falkirk, Stirling and Alloa.

We embrace flexibility to work from home as well.

What does the workload look like for an officer?

This varies – you will have list of ideas or plans you want to see achieved but also unexpected events take place that might add to your workload.

At times, it will feel like a heavy workload but you receive ongoing training and support from the college and student association staff.

What happens to my place on my course if I take the role?

The role of the sabbatical officer will not start until July.

If you are thinking about applying for another college course, you can potentially reserve a place in your course for the next year in most cases – this is called deferring. You must speak with your CM to check if this is the case.

If you are thinking about university – you may be able to defer as well.

What’s the difference between President and Vice President?

President is the lead spokesperson, responsible for shaping the work of the SA with the input of students.

VP is the spare and depute leader, who is responsible for coordinating activities and collection of the student opinion.

How is this job different from other jobs?

No two days will be the same – you will meet with students, the FVSA team & exec committee, college staff, senior management and of course, the Principal.

You will be discussing ideas and concerns from students to enhance the student experience – which can be also through events and activities.

Whom would I be expected to work with?

The SA team work very closely with one another, so you will find you will be checking in and updating/communicating on a day to day basis. You will meet with the Principal and Vice Principal of the College once a month. Any other committees you attend will be on a monthly/quarterly basis.
